The Lantern Keepers of Hollow Lane

Nina Szymanski has moved five times in six years, so she knows the rules: don't unpack, don't get attached, don't care.

Then her family moves into the last house on Hollow Lane, the one that has been dark for eleven years. Every house on the lane carves a jack-o'-lantern for Halloween week, and the reason is a story the neighbors tell only once a year. But on the very first night, a lantern up the street goes dark on the stroke of nine, with frost growing inside it. And a polite old voice from the woods says, "Good evening."

Now the lanterns are going out one by one, and this is the hundredth Halloween. With Augie, who is scared of everything, and Bix, who says she is scared of nothing, Nina has until the last stroke of midnight to find out who is snuffing them, and why.

Because someone on Hollow Lane has waited a hundred years to go home. And someone else is trying very hard to stop him.
