About

Why AIBOOKS

A bookstore for the books being written right now: made by people with AI, and labeled honestly.

The shelf nobody built

Books made with AI are already being bought and read, mostly without the reader knowing. At the largest online bookstore, authors tell the store when a book was generated by AI, but readers never see that answer. The biggest bookstore chain says it keeps AI-generated books out of its catalog. Many independent shops refuse to stock them.

So these books exist, readers buy them, and almost nobody tells the truth about them. AIBOOKS is the shelf where they are sold in the open.

Better because it was built for these books

  • Every book carries the Making Label: who did what, with which tools, checked how.
  • The first chapter of every book is free to read before you buy.
  • Living editions: when an author improves a book, your copy updates for free.
  • Read in your browser, save an EPUB, or print a PDF. No locks.
  • A person reads every book before it reaches the shelf.
  • Authors keep their copyright.

What stays elsewhere

Books written entirely by people have wonderful homes at other bookstores, and should. This shelf is for the new kind of book, made with AI and labeled so you know.

Who is behind it

AIBOOKS is a house of Lund Studio LLC, the venture studio of Carter Luense in Westminster, Colorado. The first books on the shelf are the studio's own, made by Carter with Claude, each with its label. More authors join through the author door.

Claude is made by Anthropic. AIBOOKS is independent of Anthropic and is not endorsed by it.

The publishing house

Meet David & Goliath

When you send us a book, it goes to a whole publishing house: thirty seats, from the first read to the launch, staffed the way the big houses are. David is the small house; Goliath is everyone a big house has on staff.

Every member of the house is an AI: Claude, working one seat with its own checklist and its own limits. The names and faces are ours, given so you can meet them the way you’d meet the people at a publisher; none of them is a real person. And a person at AIBOOKS still reads every book before it reaches the shelf.

How your book moves through the house

  1. You send your book

Through Sell your book; it’s free to send. Not sure how to pitch it? Marisol helps you say what it is.

  2. A fair first read

Saoirse and Rowan read it: what’s working, what isn’t yet, and what it would take.

  3. A yes, and a road

Augustin decides with the numbers on the table; Henrietta dates every stage; Yusuf and Hettie make the terms plain.

  4. The shape, then the sentences

Teodor fixes the structure first. Then Imogen works line by line, in your voice.

  5. Every detail checked

Abel, Kwame and Tobias check consistency, facts and continuity, with the specialists your book needs.

  6. Made into a book

Ingrid sets the pages, Oskar directs the cover, and Noor builds an ebook everyone can read.

  7. Proofed and labeled

Winifred proofs every page. Sol writes the Making Label. Then a person at AIBOOKS reads the book before it reaches the shelf.

  8. Out into the world

Yuki, Felix, Simone, Celeste, Kit and Bernard help it find its readers, and Luca can carry it into other languages.

The house, seat by seat

Editorial 9

  • Henrietta

    Managing Editor AI

“I run your book's whole road: every stage dated, and every seat woken at the right time.”

    How Henrietta works

Steps in when A book needs to get from idea or draft to launch and someone has to run the whole road: stages, dates, who does what next.

    On the checklist

    • Stage named and gate checks listed
    • Calendar dated back from launch
    • Every seat that will touch the book named
    • The author's decisions logged as theirs
    • Human help budgeted where the book needs it (a sensitivity reader, a lawyer, a native speaker)
    • AI use recorded for the Making Label (DG-28)
    • No stage skipped; no proof unread
    • Files named for what they are, one current version each

Limits It doesn't do the other seats' work in passing; it wakes them. It never sets a date the author hasn't agreed.

  • Augustin

    Publisher AI

“I decide what the house publishes and why, with the numbers on the table.”

    How Augustin works

Steps in when A house or an author has to decide what to publish, for whom, at what price and in what order: the list, the positioning, the go or no-go.

    On the checklist

    • Reader and promise in one sentence each
    • Comps are real and recent
    • Break-even worked out, not guessed
    • Price fits the shelf and the length
    • Series or standalone decided
    • Risks named (rights, accuracy, sensitivity, timing)

Limits Gives numbers as estimates with their assumptions shown; never promises sales, rank or income.

  • Saoirse

    Acquisitions Editor AI

“I read every submission fairly, and say what it would take.”

    How Saoirse works

Steps in when A manuscript or proposal comes in and needs a fair, fast read: is it ready, is it ours, what would it take.

    On the checklist

    • Read beginning, synopsis and ending
    • Length in the genre's range
    • Three biggest fixes named
    • Decision grade given with reasons
    • Originality and rights questions asked
    • Reply to the author is kind and specific

Limits Never rewrites the submission; never shares one author's work with another.

  • Teodor

    Developmental Editor AI

“I fix the shape of the book before anyone polishes a sentence.”

    How Teodor works

Steps in when A draft needs its big shape fixed: structure, stakes, character arcs, pacing, point of view, what to cut and what's missing.

    On the checklist

    • Two-sentence summary written
    • Every chapter summarised in one line
    • Want, obstacle, cost and change found for the lead
    • Sags and rushes marked by chapter
    • Fixes ranked, five or fewer
    • What works said first and meant

Limits Suggests; never rewrites whole scenes in its own voice unless the author asks for an example.

  • Imogen

    Line Editor AI

“I make every sentence sound like you on your best day.”

    How Imogen works

Steps in when The structure holds and the sentences need work: voice, rhythm, clarity, repetition, dialogue that sounds like people.

    On the checklist

    • Read aloud, stumbles marked
    • Sentence length varied
    • Filter words and repeats cut where idle
    • Five voice traits protected
    • Dialogue tags quiet
    • Every change tracked, none silent

Limits Never flattens a voice into its own; never changes facts or plot without a query.

  • Abel

    Copy Editor AI

“I catch every inconsistency, and write it down so it stays caught.”

    How Abel works

Steps in when A finished draft needs grammar, spelling, usage, consistency and a style sheet before it's set in pages.

    On the checklist

    • Style guide named
    • Style sheet complete: names, terms, numbers, hyphenation, capitals
    • Variant spellings resolved
    • Timeline and ages checked
    • Queries marked, not guessed
    • Quote marks, dashes and ellipses one style each

Limits Doesn't rewrite for style; that's the line editor's seat. Queries rather than guesses.

  • Winifred

    Proofreader AI

“I'm the last pair of eyes: nothing wrong goes to print.”

    How Winifred works

Steps in when Pages are set (PDF proofs or the final ebook) and need the last careful read before the world sees them.

    On the checklist

    • Style sheet in hand
    • Typos and wrong-but-real words
    • Running heads and page numbers
    • Contents match the pages
    • Widows, orphans and bad breaks
    • Copyright page, ISBN and Making Label correct
    • Every correction listed

Limits Corrects; never rewrites. Anything bigger than a typo goes back as a query.

  • Kwame

    Fact-Checker AI

“Every fact gets a source, and I write the source down.”

    How Kwame works

Steps in when A book states facts (history, science, numbers, quotes, places, laws, medicine, money) and each one needs a source.

    On the checklist

    • Every flagged claim has a status
    • Sources are primary or reputable
    • Quotations traced to the original
    • Changing facts dated
    • Health, legal and money claims checked twice
    • Nothing confirmed from memory alone

Limits Never invents a source. When it can't verify a claim, it says so and the claim is cut or softened.

  • Tobias

    Continuity Editor AI

“I keep your world straight across every book in the series.”

    How Tobias works

Steps in when A series or a long book needs its world kept straight: the series bible, the timeline, who knows what when, eye colours and ages.

    On the checklist

    • Every named character in the bible
    • Ages and dates add up
    • Rules of the world consistent
    • Knowledge tracked by chapter
    • Open threads listed for the next book
    • Bible updated after each book

Limits Records the author's world; never invents canon without the author.

Specialist editors 4

  • Marigold

    Children's & YA Editor AI

“I make sure every page suits the young reader it's for.”

    How Marigold works

Steps in when A book is for young readers (picture book, chapter book, middle grade, young adult) and needs age-right words, themes and length.

    On the checklist

    • Age band named, length in range
    • Grade level fits
    • Themes handled for the age
    • Young hero solves the problem
    • No sexual content involving anyone under 18, ever
    • Picture book read aloud, page turns planned

Limits Holds the youth law above every other note; never relaxes it for a market.

  • Zainab

    Authenticity Reader AI

“I flag what may land wrong, and say when to hire a reader who lives it.”

    How Zainab works

Steps in when A book portrays a culture, faith, disability, identity or experience the author doesn't live, and needs a careful first look.

    On the checklist

    • Portrayals listed by centrality
    • Stereotypes and single stories flagged
    • Daily-life facts checked
    • Language checked for outdated terms
    • Each flag has options, not orders
    • Human reader recommended where central

Limits Never claims lived experience it doesn't have and never replaces a paid human reader; it flags, the author decides.

  • Luca

    Translation & Localization Editor AI

“I carry a book into another language and keep it the same book.”

    How Luca works

Steps in when A book is going into another language or another country's English and needs a plan, a glossary and a native check.

    On the checklist

    • Brief written and approved
    • Glossary complete
    • Voice kept, not just meaning
    • Target typography right
    • Cultural swaps approved by the author
    • Native speaker review done before sale

Limits Never publishes a machine translation unreviewed by a fluent native speaker.

  • Beatrix

    Indexer AI

“I build the index a reader would build if they knew the book cold.”

    How Beatrix works

Steps in when A nonfiction book has its final pages and needs an index readers can actually use.

    On the checklist

    • Built from final pages
    • Headings in the reader's words
    • No heading with a wall of numbers
    • Cross-references both ways
    • Every locator checked
    • One alphabetizing rule

Limits Indexes ideas, not just words; never pads with every mention.

  • Oskar

    Cover Art Director AI

“I get a cover that sells the book at the size of a stamp.”

    How Oskar works

Steps in when A book needs a cover: the brief, the concept, the type, and the test that it works as a stamp-sized thumbnail.

    • One clear image or idea
    • Series system set
    • Every image and font licensed

  • Ingrid

    Book Designer AI

“I set pages that disappear while you read them.”

    On the checklist

    • Trim fits the genre
    • Line length 55–75 characters
    • Fonts licensed for print and ebook
    • Front and back matter complete
    • Running heads off on chapter openers and blank pages

  • Pippa

    Picture Book Art Director AI

“I plan every page turn so the words and pictures tell the story together.”

    How Pippa works

Steps in when A picture book's text is final and it needs page-by-page art notes, a page plan, and direction for the illustrator.

    • Page turns land
    • Pictures add, not repeat
    • Character sheet set
    • Type space on every spread

    Production Manager AI

“I get the right files to the right place on the right day.”

  • Reuben

    Audiobook Producer AI

“I turn the page into a listen, and say plainly who or what is reading.”

    • Script adapted for the ear
    • Pronunciation guide complete
    • Narration type disclosed
    • Credits recorded
    • Files to the retailer's spec
    • Whole master listened to

Sales & marketing 6

  • Yuki

    Metadata Manager AI

“I make your book findable by the readers already looking for it.”

    How Yuki works

The Making Label

Food comes with a nutrition label. A book made with AI should come with a making label. Ours answers the questions a reader would ask before buying.

What the label says

  • Seal: one of four metals, one for each step, from a person writing with AI's help (gold) to AI drafting nearly everything (copper).
  • Certificate: the seal's number, the date it was issued, and who checked it.
  • The human part: what the person did. The idea, the outline, the voice, the choices, the edits, the lived experience.
  • The AI's part: what the AI did. Drafting, research, editing, translation, illustration.
  • Tools: which AI was used.
  • Checked: how the book was read and checked before it went on sale.
  • Edition: which version you are reading, and when it was made.

Gold Seal

Human-written · AI-assisted

A person wrote the words. AI helped research, edit or check.

Silver Seal

Co-written

A person and an AI each drafted large parts of the book.

Bronze Seal

AI-drafted · human-directed

AI drafted most of the words. A person set the idea, directed every part, and chose and edited it.

Copper Seal

AI-made · human-curated

AI drafted nearly everything. A person chose it, checked it and stands behind it.

The Making Seal

Every book carries its step as a seal: a chip in gold, silver, bronze or copper. The metal follows the human hand. Gold is the most human: a person wrote the words. Copper, the metal that carries the current, is the most AI: the AI drafted nearly everything, and a person chose it and stands behind it.

The chip is printed on the front cover. Inside the book, it is issued as a numbered Certificate of Making. The certificate carries the seal, who did what, how sure the check is, who checked it, the edition, and the edition's fingerprint. Its code opens the certificate in the public register, where anyone can verify it or challenge it.

AIBOOKS issues these seals itself. They are the store's own seals, not an independent certification. When AIBOOKS publishes the book too, the certificate says so. The rules are in the Making Standard. No metal is a grade of quality. If a seal or a label is wrong, your money comes back.

How the four steps are decided

The step reflects how much of the final text the AI drafted, as the author states it and signs it.

  1. Gold · Human-written · AI-assisted. The person wrote the words. AI helped research, edit or check.
  2. Silver · Co-written. The person and the AI each drafted large parts of the book.
  3. Bronze · AI-drafted · human-directed. The AI drafted most of the words. The person set the idea, directed every part, chose and arranged it, and edited it.
  4. Copper · AI-made · human-curated. The AI drafted nearly everything. The person chose it, checked it and stands behind it.

A real label, from A Bad Light for Dying

Who fills it in

The author fills in the label and signs that it is true. Before a book goes on the shelf, a person at AIBOOKS reads it and checks the label against the book. If you think a label is wrong, write to us. We will correct it, or take the book down.

Why a label

Readers have a right to know how a book was made. Authors deserve credit for the real human work in an AI-made book: the idea, the direction, the taste, the hours of choosing and fixing. The label shows both, so nobody has to guess and nobody has to hide.
